I forgot this community even existed. Since then, I found this. I would not say Steve saved independent rock, although it's probably foolish to say he didn't either.

Headache EP [28 May 2005|02:20pm]

kittywhip
Anybody know the value of the Headache EP? It's the one in the black plastic sleeve on blood red vinyl with the Savage Pencil booklet, poster, and 7" single of Heartbeat also on red vinyl. I obtained the import (gold sticker) when it came out many years ago. I was told there were 1,500 copies (silver sticker) in the US and 1,500 in Europe. I hung the Puds poster on my wall back in the day so it's a little torn on the edges where the tape was. Not sure if I'd sell it (probably not) but it's kind of nice knowing what it's worth.

this is my real lj from the one below.
now i have a question.

anybody know where i can find a good copy of Atomizer on vinyl? is it true steve purposely fucked up the masters when it was put on the rich-man's 8-track tape cd to make it sound like crap?
i really want it on vinyl, and all the eps, of which, i only have racer-x (on vinyl)

I have the Shellac "The Admiral" 7" for sale on ebay at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4728612915&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1 Maybe if I wouldn't have had a typo in the band's name I would have a bid by now.

This has been covered a few times on the net, but what's the easiest way to get an Albini-ish guitar tone?

In other news, my band that was inspired by Big Black, RUINHORSE, just had their discography released by x died en route y records. You can check out some songs at here and buy it for $5! :)

Hey, I was wondering exactly what drum machine Big Black used or, better yet, where I can get drum samples in .wav format that sound a lot like Albini's trusty ol' Roland. Thanks!

I was wondering, for those who saw Big Black live or have seen live videos or whatever, how exactly the drum machine worked with Big Black. I guess there was a pedal that Steve had hooked to the machine?

That makes sense to me, songs like Cables and stuff are pretty simple and straightforward, but I've noticed that they tend to draw some things out live... mainly, the thing I don't understand is things like Jordan, Minnesota from the end of Pig Pile. It was always my impression that the drum machine had songs programmed on it, and the songs would follow that pattern and then end, but he just keeps going on and on with that drawn-out ended. How is he doing that? The only thing I can figure is that, since the part that's repeating is the beginning of the song, he's just pressing on the pedal to restart the song and then turns it off again right afterwards, restarts, turns it off, restarts, etc. This theory seems to make sense, because he also seems to do that on the Pig Pile version of Bad Penny and Pigeon Kill, with the extended stops of the songs for the spoken word parts and such.

Does anyone understand what I'm saying and wants to answer me?

PS: What exactly is a bad penny?

Thanks!

Hey there. I'm doing a paper over Benito Mussolini, and in researching on the internet, I found the song by Big Black called "Il Duce." I would absolutely LOVE to use this song as my "visual aid" for my history project, but I can't find a download anywhere. If anyone could send me the song, please do so! The project is due tomorrow, so please, if you can, send me the song asap.

Contact me through AIM: MikoUmi

EDIT: I have the mp3 now, guys. Thanks a ton! :D

The Post! entry made me think... [25 Jan 2005|12:33am]

Yeah, the community's been pretty quiet, but it seems so has Mr. Albini. I mean, I know Shellac isn't your typical record and tour band, but when the fuck are they gonna give us some new material?!? We're at 4+ years now, entering the hated "Tool" range.

And also, as an honest question since I really don't know... has he produced anything of note recently? Is he still active in that area? Just curious...
